Government of New Brunswick

Overview

A video distributor licence is required for persons who distribute videofilm to retail outlets.

Eligibility

A business applying for a licence to distribute videofilm and/or video games into New Brunswick must file a completed application and pay the applicable fees.

Video distributors must adhere to the ratings as set forth by the Maritime Film Classification Board for English titles and Régie du Cinéma for French titles.

Description

Every person who distributes videofilm to a retail outlet must obtain a video distributor licence issued by the Department of Public Safety.

Once licensed, a video distributor must ensure that any product distributed to a video exchange is a true copy of a videofilm and/or video game and has been classified.

In Canada, movie ratings are a provincial and territorial responsibility. The Nova Scotia Maritime Film Classification Board classifies English titles and Québec provides classifications for French titles. Video games that have received a classification from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) are accepted through legislation by the Province.

Fees
