The Crown Peat Policy specifies that after harvesting, peat extraction sites must be restored to the pre-disturbance peatland state or reclaimed to an alternative land use. The industry standard for restoration is the use of the moss-layer transfer technique which was developed by an extensive research program run by the Peatland Ecology Research Group.
