Tourism, Heritage and Culture
Overview
The New Brunswick Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture invites professional Indigenous artists to submit proposals to design, create and install public artwork at the new lodge in Mount Carleton Provincial Park, NB. The total budget for a public art piece or pieces at this site is $31,500. *Please refer to the project proposal form for more information.
Eligibility
DEADLINE: December 2, 2019
The call to artists is open to professional artists who identify as: Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq, or Passamaquoddy. An individual artist or a group of artists may propose a project.
A professional artist is defined as an individual who:
o Has a history of public presentation or commissions;
o Practices an art and offers services in exchange for remuneration as a creator; and
o Has specialized training in the arts (not necessarily in academic institutions).
Ineligible:
o Submissions from students at any level (ie. high school, university, college, etc.) are not eligible;
o Members of the Evaluation Committee, the Steering Committee, and their immediate families are ineligible to apply.
Description
Mount Carleton Provincial Park is constructing a new welcome centre. The park is looking to commission or acquire artwork that could be installed outdoors as a way to welcome visitors to the park, and/or artwork that could be installed inside the new centre. If selected, this commission has an installation deadline of August 1, 2020.
A jury will review the submissions and determine which shortlisted artists to invite to present more detailed proposals and to attend a site visit. The jury is composed of the following 5-7 voting members:
o Indigenous professional artists;
o Indigenous arts professionals;
o Representatives from the Mount Carleton Provincial Park or Parks Branch.
