SAINT JOHN (GNB) – The coroner’s inquest into the death of Hillary Hooper will take place March 13-17. It was originally scheduled for March 13-18.

Jury selection begins at 9 a.m. on March 13 at the Saint John Law Courts, 10 Peel Plaza. The inquest will begin immediately after the jury is chosen.

Hooper died on Dec. 9, 2020, following an incident at the Saint John Regional Hospital, where she was a patient at the time.

The presiding coroner and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.

An inquest is a formal court proceeding that allows for the public presentation of all evidence relating to a death. The New Brunswick Coroner Service is an independent fact-finding agency that may not make any finding of legal responsibility.
