FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued by Premier Blaine Higgs to mark National Acadian Day:

Today, I join all New Brunswickers in celebrating National Acadian Day, and in recognizing the vibrant culture that has endured since our province’s earliest beginnings.

On this day, we take time to celebrate the Acadian people, and their contribution to New Brunswick’s heritage over a period stretching centuries.

It is thanks to their enduring spirit that the Acadian identity thrives today, as is proven by the culture, traditions, and language found throughout the province.

Attractions such as Le Pays de la Sagouine, Le Monument-Lefebvre National Historic Site and Le Village Historique Acadien, and cultural events at the Sortie branchée en Acadie in Edmundston, National Acadian Day Celebrations in Belle-Baie, Festival acadien in Caraquet, Acadie Rock in Moncton, the Centre Communautaire Sainte-Anne in Fredericton, the Centre Samuel-de Champlain in Saint John, and the Carrefour Beausoleil Miramichi are important examples of the preservation and vitality of Acadian and francophone culture in New Brunswick.

As we celebrate their storied culture, it is important to remember that today’s Acadie plays a significant role across many sectors and comprises a significant and important part of our province’s success.

I invite all New Brunswickers to join me in celebrating l’Acadie.

Happy Acadian Day: Joyeux Quinze Août!
