Government of New Brunswick

Within the North American Relations Division of the Department, there is a focus and responsibility for New Brunswick’s relations with the United States. The activities recognize the strategic importance of sound relations with the United States to the economy and the citizens of New Brunswick.

The objectives of our U.S. relations are:

  • To promote the regional interests of New Brunswick by maintaining a provincial presence as a member of the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG-ECP), the Council of State Governments (Eastern Region), the Southeastern U.S. Alliance, and other regional organizations which offer a framework for ongoing regional co-operation and interaction.

  • To maintain a dialogue with the United States on subjects of mutual interest, including border security, transportation, trade, environment, energy, and other fields in order to foster international co-operative efforts.

  • To liaise with the American state and federal governments on issues pertaining to New Brunswick’s economic and social priorities and international relations.
