FREDERICTON (GNB) – The new Grant Funding to Non-profit Organizations Policy has been introduced to provide a more consistent and transparent approach to funding these organizations.

“Our government provides funding to non-profit organizations to ensure New Brunswickers have access to much-needed services, support, resources and technology,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Ernie Steeves. “This policy will provide a consistent and structured approach for collecting information, evaluating, supporting and monitoring financial investments to these organizations.”

Applications will still flow through individual departments, but the new policy is intended to be more streamlined, including by providing access to a central webpage that covers all relevant grant funding opportunities across the government.

Each year, the government provides financial assistance to organizations that operate for a collective, public, or social benefit. Funding is provided in the form of grants, loans, guarantees, and rebates, service contracts, purchase of service agreements and core operating funds, in areas such as arts and culture, sport and recreation, and public education. The new policy is specific to grant funding for non-profit organizations as well as registered charities, foundations, educational institutions, regional service commissions, municipalities, and other groups that operate for public or social benefit.

Steeves said the new policy will encourage the identification and adoption of innovative strategies to promote cost savings and will identify issues and mitigate risks through improved monitoring. Better tracking and reporting practices have been put in place, and more interdepartmental collaboration is being promoted.
