FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Finance and Treasury Board has filed a report with the legislative assembly containing key findings and recommendations from the review of the Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
“We would like to thank those who participated during the consultation and feedback process,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Ernie Steeves. “The provincial government is committed to fostering a culture of openness and transparency in New Brunswick’s public sector.”
The act gives people a right to access information held by the government and other public sector organizations while protecting individual privacy and other confidential information. The review is required by the act to ensure it remains effective and is administered in a way that continues to serve the needs of New Brunswickers.
The most recent review began in April 2022, in consultation with members of the public, public sector organizations that must comply with the act, and other interested stakeholders, as well as the Office of the Ombud. A public discussion paper was also posted on the provincial government’s website for feedback.
Following this report, the department will create an action plan. The plan will respond to the report’s findings and recommendations.
