FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers are invited to offer feedback on a new discussion paper as part of a review of the Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The act gives people a right to access information held by the government and other public sector organizations while protecting individual privacy and other confidential information. The review is required by the act to ensure it remains effective and is administered in a way that continues to serve the needs of New Brunswickers.

The discussion paper provides background information about the act and its operations during the last four years. It also poses some questions to assist people in providing feedback on how the act is working and how it might work better.

“The Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act affects each one of us and is part of a larger effort to encourage openness, transparency and accountability in the public sector,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Ernie Steeves. “Input from the public is a critical part of this process, and I encourage New Brunswickers to share their feedback, as that will be used to guide us through our review.”

The discussion paper and more information about the process is available online. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 31.

A report containing key findings and recommendations from the review will be submitted to the legislative assembly by March 31, 2023.
