FREDERICTON (GNB) – Six of the seven CUPE bargaining units in Parts I, II and III of the Public Service have ratified new five-year agreements with the provincial government.
CUPE 1253, which represents school bus drivers, custodians and maintenance workers in the school system, voted against the offer. Officials from the government and CUPE 1253 will meet today to allow the union to provide more information.
“The ratified agreements are fair for our employees and for New Brunswick taxpayers,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “We were able to balance the needs at both sides of the table to find a solution that includes substantial wage increases for all bargaining groups. It is disappointing that CUPE 1253 did not ratify the agreement which would have helped provide all employees better access to sustainable pensions.”
The five-year agreements include general economic increases of two per cent per year and adjustments of $0.25 per hour in each year.
The agreements also include increasing the salary for casuals to 100 per cent of the applicable regular rate.
