Government of New Brunswick

Overview

Issuance of migratory bird hunting licences to residents and non-residents of NB.

Eligibility

Going migratory bird hunting this year?

To hunt migratory game birds in Canada, you must have a valid federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit (or e-Permit) with an affixed (or printed image of a) Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation stamp.

Since 2014, ECCC has offered the option to buy the Migratory Game Bird Hunting permit online through an e-permitting system, which is available to hunters, from the comfort of their home or business 24/7. An electronic permit is easy to order and if lost you can simply reprint and sign it. The link to purchase online can be found in Related Links. They will also be for sale at many Canada Post outlets and through some independent vendors.

If you need more information about the act or its regulations, please contact the Environment and Climate Change Canada Inquiry Center at 1-800-668-6767.

Resident: Must be 12 years of age or older, must be a resident of New Brunswick as defined in the Fish and Wildlife Act and must not be restricted from purchasing a New Brunswick Hunting Licence.

Migratory bird hunters must hold a valid Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 or Minor’s New Brunswick Hunting Licence and a federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.

Hunter Education Requirements:
• Resident and Non-Resident Hunters born on or after January 1, 1981 and all first-time hunters must show proof of a Firearm Safety / Hunter Education Course.
• Hunters born prior to 1981 may present a previous hunting licence as proof of hunting experience.
• Conservation Education certificates from other provinces, territories and states are valid in New Brunswick.

Specific areas are closed to hunting. Please see the Hunt & Trap Book for more information.
