Overview
Ambulance New Brunswick Inc., is a public company created under Part III of the Public Service Labour Relations Act, to be a single service provider of ambulance services in New Brunswick including land, air and dispatch. The public company was created under agreement with this Department. Ambulance New Brunswick contracted the management of day-to-day operations of the ambulance system to an experienced private ambulance operator, Medavie Health Services New Brunswick (MHSNB), a subsidiary company of Medavie Health Services, under a performance based contract.
Eligibility
Any person in New Brunswick in need of ambulance services.
Description
If you have an emergency that requires an ambulance call 9-1-1.
All 9-1-1 requests are received by one of seven Public Service Answering Points in the province. You will be asked your location and the nature of your call. Your call is then relayed to the appropriate dispatch centre (fire, police, ambulance, etc.). After it is determined that the call is for an ambulance, an ambulance dispatcher will then come on the line and ask you questions such as the nature of the emergency, location of the emergency or patient and condition of the patient. These questions are necessary to determine the urgency of the request and what immediate treatment (if any) the patient needs. At the same time that you are giving this information, a second dispatcher is dispatching the ambulance. If emergency treatment or first aid is necessary, the dispatcher will give you instructions and information to help you care for the patient until the ambulance arrives.
Fees are legislated by government but are collected by the service provider. See Related Links.
